Winter breakfast of roasted Japanese sweet potato and cipollini onion tossed in @hudsonnapavalley olio nuovo, with my three favorite C’s (cumin, coriander, caraway) and made Hephaestus-hot with dried peppers 🌶 from summer’s haul, ground to fiery flakes.

Tian of green and yellow summer squash, various shapes and sizes of garden tomatoes, leaves of Genovese basil the size of a baby’s hand, and quenelles of cow’s milk ricotta sprinkled with spicy Purple Stripe garlic and oregano flowers wrestled from the bees.

Before the fog pulls away
its steel cloak of coolness,
the oven is stoked
with yellowing headlines
of heartache
and pine cones
the size of footballs
scrounged from the Sierras
and dried till brittle.

a skillet of tiny tomatoes,
and a cast iron
of circus colored carrots
bedazzled
with
coriander, caraway,
cumin and cayenne
sizzle
splatter
singe.
