The term ‘propaganda’ apparently first came into common use in Europe as a result of the missionary activities of the Roman Catholic Church. In 1622 in Rome, Pope Gregory XV created the Congregation for the Propagation of the Faith, a commission tasked with spreading Christianity far and wide.
